What Actually Happened in Vegas Sunday, Mar 29 2009

The inspiration for this entry comes from a quote that Lisa said at dinner last night:

“He swung at Grant and Grant punched him three times in the face and Grant and Alexa ran and hid and you went to to the IP and Beth and I were dancing with Mormons!”

Vegas.  In a nutshell.  That sums up that night so well.

That night was so crazy, we hadn’t really figured out exactly what went down until last night.  Alexa and Grant, who live in DC, flew up to Boston for the Duke game, so we grabbed dinner at Not Your Average Joe’s.  This was the first time that the five of us had hung out together since the Vegas trip.

Here’s what happened that night:

We went to XS, the brand-new nightclub at the Encore (we were there for its second weekend open!).  I think I’d go so far to say that it’s my favorite club in Vegas.  Just gorgeous.

Here are the five of us after quite a bit of dancing:

Here’s the video of us (which NEVER gets old!):

And now, the trouble:

There was a weird guy at the club who wanted to get with one of us — we weren’t really sure which one.  He tried to move in on us and Grant told him to back off.

That’s the guy on the left.

After that, the guy did the weirdest thing.  He stepped back, and from about 10 feet away, just STARED at the back of Grant’s head with an intense expression in his eyes.  He didn’t move for at least 30 seconds.

I started to freak out.

And then, apparently after I left the club and Lisa and Beth were dancing with Mormons (who weren’t drinking and made comments about a “hotbed of sin”), the guy took a swing at Grant.

He missed.

Grant punched him three times in the face.

Security kicked the other guy out!!!  They must have seen the first attempted punch.

And THAT is how you end a night in Vegas.  Well, I kid, I kid.  That’s way too early for a night to end in Vegas.  We ended up staying up all night before jumping on a 7:30 AM flight back to Boston.

THIS IS HOW I MAKE BREAD Sunday, Jun 29 2008

I came across the greatest video on YouTube yesterday.

Even if you’re a loyal Atkins devotee (but is anyone still on the Atkins diet anymore?), this video will have you craving bread in the worst way.

Check it out:

Jesus Camp: Praying to Bush Wednesday, Jun 4 2008

Here is a clip from the phenomenal documentary Jesus Camp.  The film is about an evangelical Christian community in the midwest and how the children are indoctrinated to a level that some consider borderline child abuse.

But they don’t always have the kids pray to God, Jesus or the Holy Spirit.

Sometimes they skip the deities and pray to George Bush.

Check it out:

It’s worth noting that after the movie came out that the people featured in the film, including Pastor Becky Fisher, Ted Haggard and children’s parents, were thrilled with the result.  They thought it depicted them exactly how they wanted to be portrayed.

It’s also worth noting that Ted Haggard used to be the gay-bashing pastor of one of the biggest megachurches in the U.S. and an advisor to President Bush.  Well, he was — until he admitted to receiving a “massage” from a male prostitute and underwent intensive therapy to “cure” his urges.  After completing treatment, his spokesperson declared him “now 100% heterosexual.”

But I digress.

I find this far more disturbing than anything we’ve seen in this election.

David Cook: Guitar Hero Thursday, May 22 2008

If watching this over and over (and over) again is wrong, I don’t want to be right.

I’m F*cking Obama! Wednesday, Apr 2 2008

This video is amazing.  Kudos to the creator.

I love Wayne Brady. Tuesday, Apr 1 2008

I have loved Wayne Brady for years.  He’s definitely one of the most overall talented people in entertainment today.  I used to watch Whose Line Is It, Anyway? like crazy, and if you’ve ever seen the show, you know that Wayne is head and shoulders above the other comedians.

These days, he has his own show in Las Vegas.  I cannot wait to go to Vegas, and I am absolutely, 100% going to see his show!  My other friends aren’t too keen on the idea, but I don’t care — I’ll go alone.  I’ll even spend the $170.00 for the VIP seating and meet-and-greet.  That’s how good he is.

Here is my favorite thing that he’s ever done on Whose Line.  In a “Song Styles” sketch, he has to sing a song to Lunch Lady Lee…in the form of a Strip-o-Gram.

Enjoy!

…STEAK!

La Pequeña es muy famosa! Wednesday, Mar 26 2008

I am thrilled beyond belief!  One of my dlisted favorites, La Pequeña, has earned national recognition — on CNN!

First, she was La Pequeña Prohibida, then, she was La Pequeña Amy Winehouse (which I wrote about in this earlier post).

This time, she’s outdone herself.

I present: La Pequeña Hillary Clinton!

This is the greatest thing on the internet right now.

Check out her feature on CNN:

Say what you want about Amy Winehouse… Sunday, Mar 16 2008

Yes, she’s a drug addict and alcoholic, and yes, she’s falling apart.

But don’t ever say that she lacks talent.

This acoustic performance of the Zutons’ “Valerie” proves why she deserves every award she has ever won.  This girl is unbelievable. She blows me away. Best of all, there’s nobody else out there like her.

Check it out:

And, just for laughs, I present you YouTube’s newest star: La Pequeña Amy Winehouse!

LifeWater: I’m not impressed. Wednesday, Mar 12 2008

When LifeWater came out a month ago or so, I knew I had to try it. I love Vitamin Water — it’s full of sugar, but so yummy! But most of all, it was because of their awesome Super Bowl commercial:

I decided to go with pomegranate cherry for my first try. I love both of those flavors on their own, so it was perfect.

Not very exciting. Not very flavorful. It felt empty, and almost like it had a chemical-sugar taste. There was hardly any fruit.

Well, I thought, maybe it was the flavor. The other day, I tried blackberry grape.

COUGH SYRUP. Watery cough syrup. And not the yummy Dimetapp kind.

Yeah, I think I’m going to stick with Power-C and Multi-V Vitamin Water for now…

Charlie Bit Me — the best YouTube EVER Wednesday, Mar 5 2008

Words cannot describe how much I adore this video.  I’ve watched it dozens of times and it never gets old.

Betty White is one hot ho! Wednesday, Feb 27 2008

Most celebrities getting into their eighties tend to slow down in painfully obvious mental and physical ways.  (Barbara Walters and Peter O’Toole immediately come to mind.)  Not all of them, though.  Betty White is still as sharp as a tack — and fucking HILARIOUS!

Check out this interview Craig Ferguson did with her on his show.  Her comedic timing is fantastic.

Kanye West’s “Flashing Lights” video Thursday, Feb 14 2008

You have to watch this video.  Watch it now.  On this Valentine’s Day, some will find this especially appropriate.

Note — this is not quite safe for work, unless the co-worker sitting next to you asks to watch it after you give him a play-by-play and tell him he has to see it.

I love Kanye West.  “Flashing Lights” is my favorite track on Graduation, and I always thought the song had a sexy, sinister air to it.  It’s a great song to walk along with in anger.  He definitely capitalized on that.

Creepy, huh?

Edit: I’ve already had to change the video.  Universal isn’t allowing embedding, so the only embeddable ones keep getting taken down for copyright infringement.

Snoop Dogg is HOTT Thursday, Nov 29 2007

I just discovered the most amazing video, courtesy of the love of my life, Michael K at Dlisted.com. Check it out:

I can’t even begin to explain how much I love this. Watch it.

Bobby Brown and Mike Tyson Do the Monster Mash Sunday, Nov 26 2006

This video is sublime.

I have shown this to so many people already — it’s one of the greatest things I’ve seen in my life.

Danny Tanner Was Not Gay Sunday, Nov 26 2006

I can post Youtubes now! Here’s an excellent video to start them off. Fuck me, I love some Saget.
